lyrics
Lyrics:
It was not Death, for I stood up,
and all the dead lie down
Who am I? Who am I trying to be?
Not myself, no one but myself.
But I can't be myself
Want to be someone I've never been
Living in a fantasy to bury reality
Making myself the mystery
A strong facade disguising the misery
"Like others, I did not see
As others have seen, I could not bring
My passions from a common spring
From the same fountain I did not take
My sorrow - I could not awaken
My heart rejoices in the same shade
And all that I love, I love alone."
My flesh stiffens
My eyes open numb
I can't get up
As if my life is scrapped away,
Rooted in a bed of thorns
The birds no longer sing
And wrapped in a frame,
And I can't breathe
Without a key,
And everything that moved has frozen
"She dwells with Beauty - Beauty that must die;
And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips
Turning to poison while the bee-mouth sips:
In the very temple of Delight
Melancholy has its sacred shrine,
when she stimulates herself by feeling the bitter taste of the veil
Her soul should taste the sadness of her strength
And be among his clouded trophies hanging."

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10 RJ

One of the best unexpected finds this year. This is such a simple sounding album that manages to create a huge atmosphere full of emotion. Really fucking beautiful and can't wait to see what else this band creates in the future! plasterXasthur

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
